How Much and What Kind: Foods Storage Minimums?

For a family of four we recommend the following. This list is taken from the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. The following list is for staple foods. You will want to add other items that you like. This list is useful because it give you an idea of how much food you will need.

Family Members, Ages 7+ = 4
Your family will need:

Grains
Wheat = 600 lbs
Flour = 100 lbs
Corn Meal = 100 lbs
Oats = 100 lbs
Rice = 200 lbs
Pasta = 100 lbs
Total Grains 1200 lbs

Fats and Oils
Shortening = 16 lbs
Vegtable Oil = 8 gal
Mayonaise = 8 qts
Salad Dressing = 4 qts
Peanut Butter =16 lbs
Total Fats = 100 lbs

Legumes
Beans, dry = 120 lbs
Lima Beans = 20 lbs
Soy Beans = 40 lbs
Split Peas = 20 lbs
Lentils =20 lbs
Dry Soup Mix = 20 lbs
Total Legumes = 240 lbs


Sugars
Honey = 12 lbs
Sugar = 160 lbs
Brown Sugar = 12 lbs
Molasses = 4 lbs
